About this scene
Survival camp
A camp at the edge of woodland, firelight against failing daylight.
Warm foreground against a cold background, which is the oldest colour contrast in painting and still the most reliable. The firelight takes the ember animation naturally, so the motion in this family comes from the foreground rather than the sky. Built for survival and post-apocalyptic roleplay.

Cel-shaded skies, hard-edged light, saturated gradients. The look most roleplay servers aimed at a younger audience ask for.
Anime plates trade depth for legibility, and at small sizes that trade pays. Hard-edged shapes and high-chroma gradients survive a 468x60 crop and a 300x300 downscale far better than a photographic scene does, because there is no fine detail to lose.
