A watermark is the smallest asset in a pack and often the one that returns the most. It is the lockup that sits in a corner of the screen during gameplay, which means it appears in every clip, every screenshot and every YouTube video your players make. Servers that grow through clips are almost always servers whose name is in the corner of those clips.
The format is 768x288 with full transparency, which is roughly a seventh of the width of a 1080p screen. That is large enough to read in a compressed Twitter video and small enough not to sit in the way. Because it is transparent it needs no background plate, so it can go over bright desert and dark night equally.
Two animated versions ship, and the reason is purely technical. The APNG is for anything that displays an image: a NUI overlay in a FiveM resource, a browser source in OBS, a CSS background. The alpha WebM is for anything that plays video, because video pipelines handle a VP9 WebM with an alpha channel properly while MP4 alpha support is inconsistent across players and encoders. Having both means you are not re-encoding anything to get it into your overlay.
For a FiveM NUI overlay the simplest route is a small resource with a NUI page whose body is nothing but the image positioned absolutely in a corner, loaded at server start and never hidden. The image is transparent, the page background is transparent, and the overlay costs effectively nothing because nothing is being computed per frame.
A corner lockup sits over gameplay all session, so the desaturated scenes closest to the game's own palette intrude least.
