Forum signatures and animated banners
Server listing sites and roleplay forums still run on two sizes that predate most of the people using them. They are also the cheapest inbound traffic a server gets.

Forums and listing sites in detail
The 468x60 leaderboard is the oldest standard banner on the web and it is still the slot most FiveM and roleplay listing sites sell. Sixty pixels of height is brutal: there is no room for a tagline, barely room for a mark, and the whole thing has to read at a glance while somebody scrolls past. The layout in a pack drops everything except the server name and the invite, scales the type to fill the height, and keeps the animation to a slow sweep rather than anything that reads as a flashing advert.
A 650x250 forum signature is the opposite problem. It is roomy enough for the full lockup, so the temptation is to put everything in it. What actually works is the name, the tagline and the invite, because a signature is read while somebody is reading a post, not while they are looking for a server. Most forums cap signature images somewhere between 500KB and 1MB, so the GIF is built to a palette and a frame count that lands comfortably under that.
Both formats render at three times the target resolution for the still version, which matters more here than anywhere else: a 468x60 banner on a high-density display is actually 936x120 or 1404x180 physical pixels, and a file authored at 468x60 looks soft at exactly the moment somebody is deciding whether to click.

Forums and listing sites questions
What is the standard forum signature size?
650x250 is the common ceiling on vBulletin, XenForo and Invision boards, and the size most gaming forums allow. Some boards cap width at 500px, so check the board rules before uploading.
Why is 468x60 still used?
It is the oldest IAB standard banner size and server listing sites standardised on it long ago. Most paid placements on FiveM and roleplay listing sites are still sold at 468x60.
Will the GIF be under my forum's file size limit?
The 468x60 animation is built under 4MB and the 650x250 under 6MB, with the palette and frame count tuned rather than the quality crushed. If your board is stricter, the still PNG is always under a few hundred kilobytes.
