Discord
Discord renders your avatar at 40 pixels next to a message. Design for 40 and scale up; do not design for 300 and hope.

An avatar is the most-rendered graphic on Discord. It appears beside every message you send, in every member list, in every reaction tooltip. It is also rendered at 40 pixels in the message list, which is smaller than most people realise when they are looking at a 300x300 file on their desktop.
The 300x300 in a pack is laid out for the circular crop: the mark is centred, the margin is even on all four sides, and there is no lettering that would need more than about a quarter of the frame to read. The still renders at 900x900, three times the target, so the downscale to 300 and then to 40 stays crisp rather than aliasing on the edges of the mark.
Animated avatars need Nitro. Without it Discord will accept the still PNG only. The animated version is a GIF at 20fps over 3.2 seconds, the highest frame rate of any Discord asset in a pack, because at 300x300 a frame costs almost nothing and a smooth loop at avatar size is noticeably nicer than a choppy one.
A practical note on colour: Discord's dark theme sits around a mid-dark grey, and an avatar whose dominant colour is close to it will visually disappear into the message list. The palette presets in the customiser were chosen to stay clear of that range, but if you set a custom colour it is worth checking the avatar against a dark background before you order.
Rendered at about 40 pixels beside a message, which leaves room for one mark and nothing else.
